Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge

Prince George Alexander Louis was born at 4.24pm on 22 July 2013, weighing 8lbs 6oz at St Mary's Hospital in London.

He is third in line to the British throne after his grandfather Prince Charles and his father Prince William.

George's parents, Prince William and Catherine Middleton, emerged from the Lindo wing of St Mary's hospital to be greeted by adoring crowds and stood with their baby, and chatted briefly with reporters and onlookers.

Prince Wiliam then carefully placed George into his car seat in his black Range Rover and the family drove away to Kensington Palace.

Catherine and William stepped from the double front doors of the Lindo Wing of St Mary's hospital in sunshine to the adoring cheers of up to a thousand people and around 500 reporters and cameramen who had been gathered outside the hospital waiting and hoping for a glimpse of the new prince with his parents.

Catherine gently tamed her hair which was blowing in the breeze and appeared relaxed and happy holding her son who was awake and moving his tiny hands.

After pausing on the hospital step and waving to the crowd, Catherine carefully placed her baby into Prince William's arms to the cheer of the crowds.

Catherine beamed as the new parents approached reporters waiting in the street.

William was the first to answer questions from reporters who he could barely hear over the cheers of the crowd.

'Well he's got a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure,' he said. "He's a big boy. He's quite heavy. We're still working on a name, so we'll have that as soon as we can but it's the first time we've seen him really, so we're having a proper chance to catch up and see him."

Asked about his reaction to the birth, William said, "Very emotional." Kate then joined in, "Yes, very emotional. It's such a special time. Any parent I think would probably know what this feeling feels like." William joined in again with, "Very special".

Reporters then asked about the long wait for the prince's arrival and William told them, "It was. I'll remind him of his tardiness when he's a bit older, 'cause I know how long you've all been standing out here. Hopefully the hospital and you guys can all go back to normal now and we can look after him."

When asked about any family resemblance, William nodded towards Catherine and said,"He's got her looks, thankfully."

Catherine shyly said,"No, no."

William then moved to answer questions from other people who asked if he'd be changing nappies and he said, "I've done that already." Kate backed him up saying, "Yes, he's done that already."

When asked about the baby's hair, William answered, "Yes, he's got way more than me, thank God."

William then took his leave of the reporters, cameramen and onlookers saying, "Thanks a lot, Thank you' to the media contingent. He turned with Kate and walked back inside the hospital to a new round of cheers, applause and whistles from the crowd.

The Prince had starred in a two and a half minute media conference - the first of many to the delight of the media and the crowd.

A short time later, the family re-emerged, this time with the baby in his car seat capsule, carried by Primce William. William walked quickly around the car and put him in the driver's side passenger door while Kate was assisted into the passenger side of the car in back seat to sit beside the baby.

William opened the driver's door, paused to acknowledge the crowd again, put on his seatbelt and set off for Kensington Palace. As the car pulled away, another there was another roar from the crowd. The family was on their way home.

The Arms of Miss Catherine Middleton

Just before her wedding to Prince Wiliam, Catherine was granted a coast of arms. College of Arms Garter principal Thomas Woodcock said the purpose of the coat of arms was to provide a traditional heraldic identity for Catherine, as she married into the Royal Family.

"Every Coat of Arms has been designed to identify a person, school or organisation, and to last forever: heraldry is Europe's oldest, most visual and strictly regulated form of identity and it surrounds us in Britain, giving clues to our history and surroundings. After her marriage, Catherine Middleton will place her father's Arms beside those of her husband in what is known as an impaled Coat of Arms. This will require a Royal Warrant from The Queen," he said.

Mr and Mrs Middleton and all three of their children will be entitled to the Arms.

The Duke of Cambridge was born at 9.03pm on 21st June 1982, at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London. A bulletin announced that the Royal baby weighed 7lb 1 1/2oz.

On 4th August 1982, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis was christened by the The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Robert Runcie, in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace.

The Duke of Cambridge’s first flight was on 26th August 1982 to Balmoral with his parents. His first overseas visit commenced 16th March 1983, when he visited Australia and New Zealand with The Prince and Princess of Wales.

His Royal Highness became a pupil at Wetherby School in London, from 1987 until 1990. From 1990, the young Prince attended Ludgrove School in Berkshire, for five years until 1995.

He then attended Eton College (near Windsor Castle) from July 1995 and studied Geography, Biology and History of Art at A Level.

The Duke was 15-years-old when Diana, Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash in Paris on 31st August 1997.

After a gap year in which he visited Chile and Belize, worked on British dairy farms and visited countries in Africa,

He studied at St. Andrews University in Fife, Scotland and graduated with a 2:1 in Geography in 2005.

After a period of work experience, The Duke joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as an Officer Cadet. He was commissioned as an army officer in front of The Queen at Sandhurst in December 2006 and joined the Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals) as a Second Lieutenant.

The Duke is currently a fully operational Search and Rescue Pilot with the Royal Air Force, based at Anglesey, Wales. He qualified as a captain in June 2012.

On 29th April 2011, His Royal Highness married Miss Catherine Middleton. The couple are now known as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

On 3rd December 2012, St James's Palace released a statement that Their Royal Highnesses were pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge was expecting a baby.

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton was born to Michael and Carole Middleton at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, on 9th January 1982.

The Duchess is the eldest of three children.

In 1984, at the age of two, The Duchess moved with her family to Amman in Jordan, where her father worked for two and a half years. She attended a nursery school in Amman from the age of three.

In September 1986, the Middletons returned to their home in West Berkshire, and Catherine attended St. Andrew’s School in Pangbourne, where she remained until July 1995.

She then went to Marlborough College in Wiltshire, where she studied Chemistry, Biology and Art at A-level and took part in sport on behalf of the school, playing tennis, hockey and netball and participating in athletics, particularly high jump.

The Duchess completed her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award at Marlborough.

Leaving Marlborough College in July 2000, Catherine undertook a gap year in which she studied at the British Institute in Florence, undertook a Raleigh International programme in Chile, and crewed on Round the World Challenge boats in the Solent.

In 2001, Catherine enrolled at the University of St. Andrews, Fife, from where she graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 in History of Art.

Catherine continued with her interest in sport at University, playing hockey for the University team. Catherine met William when studying at the University.

After completing her degree, Catherine worked for Party Pieces, a company owned and run by her parents. Alongside her work for the family business, she also worked in London as a part-time buyer for the clothing company Jigsaw Junior.

In 2008, Catherine launched First Birthdays, a junior brand to Party Pieces. Her role within the family business included catalogue design and production, marketing and photography.

On 29th April 2011, Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton were married at Westminster Abbey.
